FAQ

  • Why are my tubers different sizes?

Like people, tubers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some cultivars produce larger than average tubers, while other produce smaller ones. A small tuber will still grow to be a full size dahlia - as long as it has an eye.

  • Why have I received a small clump?

Sometimes dividing into single tubers can be tricky, so we leave a small clump of 2 - 4 tubers to ensure there will be an eye come Spring. If there are multiple eyes when they arrive to you and you are handy with the snips you can divide further, or just plant as is.

  • The shoot has been knocked off my tuber, will it still grow?

Yes! In fact we take multiple cuttings from the same shoots per year and they re-grow. Similarly, if you store your tubers too long and end up with a long leggy shoot, just cut it off near the base and let it re-grow.

  • Will this tuber produce flowers this year?

If you are growing in the right conditions, yes, the individual tubers will produce multiple blooms and multiply tubers under-ground by the end of the season.

  • I am based in Sydney, can I pickup locally?

No, for biosecurity reasons we do not allow farm pickup. Unless you have personally pre-arranged a swap with Sam all orders are through the online store only.

  • When will my tubers arrive?

Tubers will be shipped from September. If you would like your tuber order earlier please email us.

  • I missed out on what I wanted, is there a second sale?

We will list all additional tubers left in storage in Spring/November, so please sign up for our email list to be notified. We will often post a “seconds” sale where tubers are still viable but aren’t pretty. They may have been chopped or have shovel marks in them. These are all still viable and are a great way to grab yourself a bargain.

  • Yay my tubers have arrived, can I leave them in the box until I'm ready?

Your tubers will come in a paper bag with a small amount of pine shavings. Please unpack and store your tubers in your preferred storage medium asap if you are not planting shortly after they arrive.

  • I am not satisfied with my order, can I get a refund?

We want our customers to be happy - please unbox your tubers on arrival and contact us if you have any concerns. All tubers are packaged carefully, in good condition with visible eyes. We are not responsible for damage during transport, during your own storage or planting. Please read our Terms and Conditions prior to ordering.
